She's so fine

She blows my mind! With how sweet and calm she is.

Nutmeg got her first teat cleaning experience a few days ago. She used to kick at my hand when I tried to stick my fingers in there but when I tried the other day she let me pick out all the sand and crusties. It must have been bothering her because she felt good enough to run around like a crazy horse the next day.

Silly goose, her buddies decided to race her.
We all know this little halter bred horse is destined to be a timed event champion, you can just tell. She digs in, and goes like the wind. Sharp turns? No problem. Hard stops? No problem. Rollbacks? She does them for fun.

Decided to update..

So I've been pretty busy with Finals, and they're FINALLY done. First year of college down, about 5-6 more to go..

Nutmeg has shed out completely since its almost June. She also had her birthday which was on April 29th.
Not much has gone on since then, just a bit of growing. Shes got a lot more to do!

A visit from the vet

Today Nutmeg is going to meet the Vet! He is a nice guy, we will see how she likes him. I'll take pictures. Soon to be updated!

Update: Nutmeg met the Vet and his assistant today! She behaved like a polite little lady for them. She got her temperature taken, her vaccinations and had her teeth looked at. She as a little bit of an overbite, but nothing too bad.

YIKES! Getting a temperature check! An invasion of privacy. She didn't even flinch.
She is a very healthy growing filly, in that awkward butt high phase.
Today was pretty uneventful. Got her fly mask on her and then the clouds came and it started to sprinkle. I will be sending in her registration papers soon. These are the names I picked out.
THF Sweet Four You
THF Sprinkle Me Sweet
THF Too Sweet Four U

Nutmeg likes...

Some things Nutmeg enjoys doing..
Nickering to me at breakfast time
Following me EVERYWHERE
Squashing toes (We're learning that toes aren't good to step on...)
Taking naps in her poop, even after I clean her pen
Spreading her hay everywhere and sleeping in that too
Getting petted, loved on, and having those itchy spots taken care of
Tearing up the field with bucks, snorts, and squeals
Chasing my poor old cat around
Tormenting my gelding
Pretending to be an A-rub
Causing chaos and making me scream and rip my hair out at certain times
and of course..
She loves to do new things, my friend Helen and I taught her to load into a trailer in about 30 minutes, this included hopping in for grain, hopping out, and hopping back into the trailer for some more grain. Now she loads like a champ and we take her all over the place.

Recently I was going to go to the horse class at the college, and we were going to leave Nutmeg home. Nutmeg did not agree with this, and promptly started tearing around the roundpen as we drove away. Just as I was about to drive out of sight...
She jumped a four foot fence into an empty pasture.
A weaner jumped a four foot fence...
Oh boy. I can't wait to see how high she will jump when she is fully grown. Yikes.
Nutmeg ended up coming with us, no more fence jumping for her until she's at least 4!
I think I lost some hair over that one. She is fine, no scrapes, not even sore. She is one tough cookie.

A little horse..

Almost a month ago I brought home a little filly, not even a year old. They called her Ink Four Nutmeg, but I named her something sweeter. She is going to be my show horse, and this spring we will start our journey to collect some ribbons. I still call her Nutmeg, it just seems to fit.

Nutmeg is a Paint. She is a sorrel sabino overo medicine hat. She has one blue eye and one brown with blue flecks. She is mostly white with very little brown. She is just too cute. She looks as sweet as she is, Nutmeg is by far the calmest, sweetest filly I've had the pleasure of working with. She learns quickly, and strives to please.

I first saw Nutmeg when I glanced at her ad online, she was just a weanling but I was in love with her looks. I kept watching her for several months, back then she cost way too much for a college student to afford. Then in February I glanced on the local craigslist and found her for $900! I e-mailed her owner, went out to see her, and $800 later I came home with my new best friend. A little horse called Nutmeg, not even a year old.

Nutmeg when I went to see her for the first time. Her coat is very soft. (Please ignore the date on the pictures, the camera I used is broken and I can't change the date.)

A picture of her pretty blue eye. Her ears are brown because she has the medicine hat markings.

She has a very pretty face and lovely head. Nutmeg is a medicine hat but she is not a 'Perfectly marked' medicine hat because she has other coloring aside from the brown cap on the top of her head. She is still perfect to me.

In this blog I will be sharing Nutmeg and I's experiences together as she grows up into a lovely mare. Including the good, the bad, and the ugly.
