You know when you have one of those amazing lightbulb moments and everything just seems to click?
Nutmeg had one of those last night. :)
DD worked on turns with Nutmeg around a group of trees in his yard. That's when it happened, and the lightbulb turned on. Haha!
After that DD and his wife went on a short trail ride with another horse that she was working with.
Nutmeg got tucked into a pasture with Miss Snowberry for the night. :)

And now from the day before:

Well, now that we have our big girl shoes on we are much more willing to move forward under saddle!
Responding well to the bit and turning better each time.
She got loped a bit in the round pen and then was taken out to work on trotting some lines to build up conditioning. Still poops out pretty easy, she must take after me.

She got a nice big bath and had her face washed because something pretty dang cool is happening on Friday.

I can't wait to see her trottin' around when she has more muscle and can carry herself better.

I love that DD is riding her in her fly mask...I will probably do that too. Maybe I'll buy one of this absolutely hilarious looking ones with the eyes on it like Brad has and ride her in town...bet people will give us weird looks. Tee hee. :D

Yesterday Nutmeg got her very first pair of shoes on the fronts!
She didn't appreciate the banging on the bottom of her hooves but she got through it alright. Poor baby, haha.
After that she got her 13th ride and she is starting to get the hang of those turns.
I think DD also ponied her some more as well.

From a few days ago.

Another update

Nutmeg is getting the hang of turning and she had a good time with Ev and Danmakine visiting her! Apparently Nutmeg is a dirty girl! Haha! I don't doubt that for a second...white hoss plus dust and dirt = dirty girl. Hehe!
Nutmeg and DD gave Dan a hobbling demonstration!

I notice that my Meggermegs is doing something she just absolutely loves to do in this picture....
Putting her head down begging for some head and ear rubs! She days "Give me scritches DD, I has a need to has my head rubbed!" Lol!!

Nutmeg also got her 10th ride that day and was a very good girl. I have a few other pictures but I am not sure if Dan/Ev wanted me to post 'em so I'll just save them for my enjoyment until they tell me otherwise. ;)

Yesterday Nutmeg was ponied on a nice trail ride with 5 other horses for 2 hours.
After a nice long rest he got her out and tacked her up and got up on her outside just like a "big horse" and went for a ride. He had the bit in her mouth and just walked her, he was in the saddle for about an hour. Not lots of pics though. Hehe. Then she got tied to the trailer after being hosed off and then put away with some tasty dinner. All in all she was a very good girl.

Nutmeg got her 8th ride and she had a new rider too!
They started out in the roundpen first and DD showed (we shall call her T) T that Nutmeg is fine to be ridden.
DD ponied Nutmeg with T in the saddle and as Nutmeg's confidence grew they transitioned her to just having the reins only and having Jack there to help her along.
It went without a hitch and Nutmeg had a blast, although I think everyone did from the looks of it! :)

Thanks for the great pictures DD and DD's awesome photographer!

DD has been working on conditioning Nutmeg slowly, she isn't exactly what I would call in shape, haha!
He has been working on getting Nutmeg moving with Jack. She'd keep up, but her stride is shorter than his, so she'd  fall behind and to catch up she'd get ahead of him.
With a bit of work he was able to have a nice clean run with her along the fence line with Jack.
Once she can do this well she should be balanced enough to have a saddle and rider, which she should be able to do sometime next week.

3 pictures but the poor camera was running out of juice.
Or they were going so fast (vroom) that the camera couldn't pick them up. ;)

Bareback (From yesterday)

Tonight was a big night for Miss Nutmeg, she was introduced to the art of bareback riding and a very big scary horse eating mounting block. Well, to her it was more like the not so exciting mounting block.

She did great and stood like a good girl near the mounting block for DD to get on. Hmm now that I have a horse that doesn't crap itself at the mounting block I think I'll need to invest in one. Lol!

Nutmeg is very trusting of DD and I'm glad she is doing so well.

Nuts About Pony

(thanks for the title idea DD!)

Nutmeg is doing well, she is standing stock still for mounting, has a good idea of the ground tie and hobbling. She is learning to turn left and right and will trot in a straight line with Jack. She hard ties to the trailer, loads and unloads, she will back out or turn around to unload from the front.
She has not bucked, reared, kicked or offered to bite. She is being quiet and easy to manage on the trail while being ponied, even through obstacles.
Can't wait to see more pictures! She's a good girl and doing really well.

Love this first picture for some reason, haha her legs. :)

Here are some more pictures from her 6th or 7th ride. :)
She is starting to accept the bit much more and got her first ride outside the round pen and was very well behaved about it.

5th Ride

Nutmeg got her 5th ride today(yesterday..ish sorry trying to catch everyone up!). She also was tied to the trailer and groomed, then saddled up and loaded into the trailer a few times. She backs out of it without any problems. Good girl!
She was hobbled again and behaved well.

She got some more mounting and dismounting lessons and walked around the round pen for a bit.
She was also bitted up for a while and holds it very well, but does need some work on having it put into her mouth.

And of course there is always time for a bit of fun!

Power Steering

(From yesterday)

Nutmeg's first ever time being driven, hell she's never even had a line attached to her halter before! Lol!

DD is teaching her some steering on the ground and will be re-enforcing it in the saddle. He will be using several techniques to teach her woah, back up and turn.

Learning to turn to the right.

I can see the wheel turning in her pretty little head even now, haha!
I can't wait to see more pictures of her getting her "power steering" as I like to call it.
I may have a few of them out of order so if I do that's my bad, hah!
